Frostbite is a major issue up on the highest mountains - like the Himalayas. I wouldn't say those mountaneers "whip it out" no problem...

Glad you're feeling better. ;-)

Great post, Dee-Tee. I'm so glad to hear you're feeling better. Sounds like the flu I had a few weeks ago, and it took forever to "really" leave. A warning - don't go back to your regular pace of life immediately afterwards - you might think you're over that virus, but it really takes a while.

I think Chie's marketing ideas are great, too! However, the eco-diaper would only be marketable to women. I know some mountain climbers personally, and believe, they'll pee wherever they are during a climb, no problem.

Recently re-watched Apollo 13. Sorry, DeeTee, astronauts already have the "waste-dump" thing covered.

Damn, Chie, you are a marketing genius! I *love* the Buzz idea -- hey, one could text: "HELP I'VE FALLEN AND CAN'T GET UP!!" -- SO much better than the necklace... you should be rich!

Also, wrt the "Mountain Software" adult diapers... could be used by psycho astronauts, too! ;-)

DeeTee -

Don't fight the darkness - sell it a lightbulb!

No one wants to admit that they're getting old. That's why so many people drive SUV's rather than mini vans (even though, with their 2 kids and golden retriever the van is really a better choice). However, such denial opens the door for lots of new products that just need to be marketed correctly. Consider Buzz and Mountain Software - 2 products I just thought up after reading your latest.

Baby Boomers and younger are never going to wear a LifeAlert monitor around their neck. ("That's something for my grandmother!") But they would use Buzz. Buzz is an alarm system using their Blackberry or PDA. It can set it for specific days or daily or as often as needed. The Buzz system will text you a message and if you don't respond within X amount of time, someone is sent to the coordinates being emited by the GPS system in your device. We market it as an security/anti-kidnapping/car-jacking feature that Surprise! can also be used for people living alone. Thus ensuring that you don't lie unconscious on the floor for days before someone finds you.

Also, no one wants to be seen wearing or buying Depends undergarmets. However, everyone wants to be considered adventurous and enviro-friendly these days. Mountain Software is absorbant, disposable, bio-degradable underwear designed by mountaineers who couldn't unzip to pee while climbing. "Do you have incontinence?" "No, I climb mountains."
Its all in the spin.

Glad you're feeling better.
